Inside: Add these habits to your routine if you want to be more successful at work or in life.
Do you feel like you’re constantly working – but feel like you aren’t actually accomplishing anything?
Believe me – you aren’t alone.
Many of us struggle with being productive. Often we’ve developed bad habits that are difficult to change, especially when we’re struggling with a lack of motivation.
But the good news is you can change your ways and become more successful – as long as you’re committed to making it happen.
By facing your challenges and identifying tools that will help you to be more successful, you can stay on task and be more productive so that ultimately you get more done.

What’s Getting In Your Way of Success?
Before we dive into the habits that can help you become more successful, it’s important to understand what’s getting in the way of your success in the first place.
After all, none of us go to work or go through life planning to be unproductive. And yet, it happens.
Here are a few of the most common culprits that can get in the way of your progress:
You lack motivation or inspiration.
For some tasks, especially ones in the creative space, inspiration can be critical. You can’t just create something out of nowhere without any guidance or ideas.
And if it’s on you to come up with them, it’s easy to fall into an unproductive spiral of procrastination and frustration.
Many people have some repetitive tasks that are required of them. These tasks can feel monotonous and it’s a challenge to get motivated to complete them.
Your work doesn’t feel meaningful.
When we don’t recognize the benefit our work is bringing to the world, it is really easy to get disengaged, unmotivated, and unproductive. After all, it’s important to see why you’re putting in all of that effort – and if you can’t? It’s a problem.
Making sure you can pinpoint the meaning of your work and the value you’re bringing to the table is important and can help you feel energized as you approach your to-do list.
You have an unhealthy work environment.
When it comes to your work, your manager and coworkers can make or break your enthusiasm, happiness, and the level of effort you’re willing to give. If your manager is supportive, helpful, and kind, you might be willing to step up and put forward some extra effort.
On the other hand, if you’re dealing with a rude, inconsiderate, and frustrating manager or coworkers, you’re probably significantly less motivated to get the job done.
5 Habits If You Want to Be More Successful
Ready to take action and become more successful? Let’s do it!
Here are actionable steps you can implement in your routine today to change your habits and get more done.
1. Prioritize.
If you want to be more successful it’s crucial to prioritize what is most important and which tasks will help you reach your goals.
First of all, you need to define what success means to you. Knowing your values and goals will help frame what success looks like in your life.
As you consider your top priorities, it’s also important to identify which tasks are crucial. When you make a daily habit of prioritizing your top tasks, you can focus your time on what actually helps move the needle.
We live in a world that is full of distractions. Getting clear on your priorities first is essential.
2. Make a list – and stick to it.
If you’re the type of person who feels accomplished when checking off items on your to-do list, leveraging lists to stay focused and on task can be a great way to increase productivity.
You don’t have to get fancy and leverage apps and task trackers – you can simply use a pen and a sticky note or a piece of paper. Make a list of everything you need to accomplish, broken out into specific, actionable tasks.
Next, prioritize your list by urgency and importance. Then, work your way through that list, checking off items or crossing them out as you make progress.
For those of us who struggle with productivity, this can be a surprisingly effective strategy to help you get more done.
When you stick to your list it helps you to avoid bad habits that waste your time so that you use your time more efficiently.
3. Break your tasks up into bite-sized chunks.
For some of us, a lack of productivity happens when we feel overwhelmed by the tasks in front of us.
It’s easy to get frustrated, overwhelmed, and ultimately disengaged when it feels like you’ve got an unreasonable amount on your plate – and many of us are quick to take that approach when things get tough.
Instead, you can give yourself a little motivation and improve your productivity by breaking that work down into more manageable chunks.
By giving yourself opportunities to focus – followed by dedicated break time to rest and recharge – you might be surprised to see how much easier it is to focus and get things done.
One smart strategy you can leverage here is the Pomodoro Method. Named for the tomato-shaped timer that started the trend, the idea is that you break your work into 15-minute sessions of intense focus – driven by a timer.
When that timer goes off, it’s time to stop working for a few minutes, pause, and take care of whatever you need before you start another timer and get back to the task at hand.
Developing productive habits in your life will help you to be more successful with your work.
4. Celebrate your wins.
Another great way to help you to be more successful at work?
Focus on the positive – and celebrate your achievements.
A little celebration can be a big motivator for many. Consider what activity would help you to feel seen and appreciated. It could be something as simple as a trip to your favorite bakery or coffee shop with a friend.
The most important part is taking a moment to acknowledge your accomplishments. This will encourage you to continue putting in the effort.
If you have a healthy work environment these celebrations and recognitions should exist in the workplace as well. Consider how you could help recognize coworkers as well as build camaraderie as you encourage and support each other.
Intentional celebrations help to improve your mindset while also encouraging productivity and success.
5. Remind yourself why your work matters.
One thing many of us crave – but don’t actively think about as we consider our jobs – is truly meaningful work.
There are some jobs where you can very clearly see how the effort you put in produces meaningful results.
For instance, if you’re a nurse at a hospital, you go to work every day to save lives. It doesn’t get much more meaningful than that.
Another great example? Teachers, whose job is to educate students of all ages. That’s an incredibly powerful mission.
And if you are a parent, that job is massively meaningful. You are helping to shape the next generation and giving them a strong foundation to carry with them throughout their lives.
But that meaning can easily get lost in the drudgery of your day-to-day work. And if you don’t work in a field where the value you add is as obvious, it can be difficult to recognize how you’re contributing to the bigger picture or making a positive impact.
Your work is meaningful. That can be either through the outcomes it provides for others or the resources it gives you and your family. Keeping that in perspective can help you feel more successful.
