  1. I will use NEAT method to organize my garage as I still have some things belonging to long-departed relatives – my parents, husband, etc. and children who are now 49, 47 and 46… and archives for activist organizations and the NDP. I have been adding stuff to my garage since 1987!

  2. I enjoy the newsletter, but have abandoned the idea of emptying a space ( drawer, closet, garage, pantry, etc.) to declutter it. That just makes a bigger mess. I prefer Dana’s method, which is basically to rehome things immediately either trash, donate, or find a home now ( take it there now). You can stop anytime and you don’t have a mess to clean up.

  3. My husband and I (both in our late 70s) are currently clearing our attic – a lifetime collection of just about everything, so we’re having to be fairly ruthless! More than half is stored in boxes, so it’s a case of transferring the contents of one box a day into carry bags that get lugged down for instant trash / donate / keep (a small fraction). We’re about half way there and it’s looking so much better already! I’m finding this site really helpful in getting control of the unnecessary clutter in our home and making it into a beautiful, peaceful space for our senior years. Thanks to Julianna and all contributors!

  4. NEAT sounds fine, but if the pictures are any indication of the final goal, it looks like the goal is to be photoshoot ready, which keeps everyone uptight and nervous about messing something up and afraid to breathe. I prefer a home…something that is organized by relaxed and welcoming like a warm hug.

    1. Hi Carol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I use stock photos on the site so options are limited. I wish they had more that looked like lived in but clutter free homes but those images are hard to find. I hope that the tips are helpful even if the photos aren’t resonating with you.
