  1. I like before and after photos. The illustrations that accompanied this article do not reflect what work has been done and to what effect. The last photo of the grey, blah living room with the baskets and framed prints straggling in an uneven line across a long wall has been used multiple times, and I would suggest it should be a “before” photo and the “after” could show an attractive arrangement of the same art that combines VERTICAL and horizontal lines. Talking about making rooms look cozy, how about some pillows and a throw blanket in warm tones to bring COLOR in? I read this blog regularly, but I am frustrated by the lack of design.

    1. Thank you for your feedback, Jan. I use stock photos on the site so unfortunately the options for pictures are limited. I agree it would be nice to have more spaces that are clutter free but also have personality. Sadly there just aren’t many of those options available. I hope that the tips are still helpful even if the photos aren’t resonating with you.

  2. This is a great idea! I did it with my bedroom — took EVERYTHING out, cleaned, painted the walls white (were a very tired dull yellow, not a sunny yellow), and then thought about what I wanted to put back in the room. I realized not every wall needed a photo or art on it. I got a small new cotton Indian rug in shades of blue and peach instead of the heavy ugly acrylic monster in beige & dark red that had been living on my floor. Got a new bed comforter in soothing shades. Framed some cool old album covers. Now it’s such a relaxing space; I get the best sleep of my life.

  3. I remember my teenaged brother would do this whenever he cleaned his bedroom. The bed and dresser would be in the hallway and we all had to work around it until he was satisfied. It was a great visual lesson to me.
